My main objective is to compare dynamic properties (tree growth rate and mortality) across forest types (heath, peat swamp, and mixed dipterocarp forests) in Kalimantan. In this seminar, I will explain my preliminary analysis for peat swamp forest data in Sebangau basin, Central Kalimantan to estimate these rates (and their tree-size dependence). I hope to receive suggestions for my future analysis.
To examine the dynamics of trees at ex-logging concession area in peat swamp forest over 12 years, growth and mortality of trees were measured and monitored in six plots (50 m x 50 m) in 1999 and 2011. Regression models using GLM package, with AIC comparison to detect whether size dependent models are selected, analyzed relative growth rate and mortality of trees. The results detected size dependence in relative growth rate and mortality. When we use full Bayesian model with species identity, size dependence was not found.
