In 2007 were burnt 4 plots in Teshio experimental forest at relatively low intesity. Treatments were: burnt, burnt then the charcoal was removed and control. Soil properties were monitored during that year and showed significant change compared to the unburnt plots. I followed up the nutrient levels in the soil through 2012 and cored tree rings. In this seminar I will talk about the expected N-nutrients availability, C:N ratio and other soil properties 5 years after the fire. I will also talk about the use of carbon isotope analysis from tree rings to detect the responses of the plants to the temporary removal of sasa and the presence of charcoal in the soil.
