Habitat: sunny to semi-shaded sites, e.g., roadsides and meadows (Native habitats: moist to mesic black soil prairies, open woodlands, woodland edges, savannas, and wooded slopes along rivers or lakes)

[1/2] In May 24 2010 at a parking lot in N25/E2, East Ward, Sapporo. Flowers emerge directly from the rhizomes and form a basal rosette. [3/4] a white-flowered cultivar found at N27/W2 on May 26 2011. Probably escaped from a garden.
