Lifeform: perennial forb
Distribution: circumpolar (including north to Chubu District, Japan)
Habitat: dry meadows and heaths
Flower: hermaphrodite (having both male and female organs)
Morphology: highly variable
Synonyms

Bistorta vivipara (L.) Delarbre
Persicaria vivipara (L.) Ronse Decr.

var. macounii (Small) Hult., giantic → discarded
