Yachisugina (ヤチスギナ, 谷地杉菜), meadow horsetail, shade horsetail or shady horsetail
Lifeform: deciduous, rhizomatous, perennial fern
Distribution: arctic and temperate regions of Europe, North America, central and northern Asia (eastern Hokkaido and Iwate Prefecture in Honshu)

Rare → RDB Japan (2007) = VU

Habitat: shade provided by the canopies of forests and/or canopy herbs, tending to grow close to streams, ponds and rivers
