Thymus L. (イブキジャコウソウ) Youshu-ibuki-jakousou (ヨウシュイブキジャコウソウ, 洋種伊吹麝香草), breckland thyme, wild thyme or creeping thyme Lifeform: evergreen, prostrate shrub, with 10-30 cm in height ↔ T. quinquecostatus Distribution: palearctic zone (Europe and north Africa) → exotic to Japan

Habitat: dry grassland, usually on calcareous soils in the native regions Chromosome number: 2n = 24 Cultivars: many Annie Hall (white flower), Pink Chintz, Elfin, etc. Usage: seasoning (after drying) → thyme oil (major chemical = thymol), rock garden, groundcover
