Habitat: sand and gravel over laterite and limestone on uplands to coastal plains Leaf: oval - egg-shaped Use: gardening var. beaufortioides: thin leaves with five or more veins with a glabrous hypanthium var. lachnostanthe Hnatiuk: thin leaves with three veins with a densely hairy hypanthium var. microphylla Hnatiuk: small, thick leaves with fewer than three veins
