This species was formerly separated into two varieties. Now, these two varieteis are merged into one species, because of the continuous variations. var. japonica Nakai (ヤマハギ) var. bicolor (エゾヤマハギ) var. higoensis (T. Simizu) Murata (クロバナキハギ) var. nana Nakai (チャボヤマハギ) f. albiflora Matsum. (シロバナヤマハギ)
