Distribution: Siberia - northern Japan (including Hokkaido) - Sakhalin - Kuriles - Kamchatka
Habitat: forests - open habitats, including wetland (湿原)

Distribution/Hatitat: seprentine zone in northern Hokkaido

Stem: 20-100 cm in height
Leaf: 15-60 mm in length, top rounded, tooth deep at the top to shallow at the base
var. aemilana (C. K. Schn.) Hara (エゾノマルバシモツケ, 蝦夷ノ丸葉下野)
Distribution/habitat: alpine zone in Hokkaido
Stem: short ≤ 30 cm in height
Leaf: small, rounded and wide, with wrinkles
Vein: dented
