Lifeform: evergreen, short shrub ≈ 2 m tall
Distribution: native to central and south America

→ invasive to Japan (Bonin and Ryuku Islands) and the other (sub-)tropical regions

Habitat: agricultural areas, forest margins and gaps, riparian zones, grasslands, secondary forests and beach fronts
Fruit: berry-like drupe (→ animal dispersal)
Use: gardening → many cultivars
