(マツバラン) Matsubaran (マツバラン, 松葉蘭), whisk fern, or skeleton fork fern Houkiran (ホウキラン, 箒蘭) Lifeform: evergreen fern Distribution: widespread mostly in tropical and subtropical regions and partly in temperate regions, including the south to the Chubu District of Japan (the northern limit reported from Miyagi Prefecture) Red Data Book: NT

Habitat: on rockes and trees (epiphytes) Morphology: Stem: dichotomous branching Leaf and root: absent (stems supported by the rhizomes) Use: gardening (traditionally used after Edo Era in Japan)
