Asclepias L. (トウワタ)
O-towata (オオトウワタ, cardiac glycosides), common milkweed, butterfly flower, silky swallow-wort, and Virginia silkweed
Lifeform: clonal perennial forb, developing rhizomes
Distribution: southern Canada and the United States (east of the Rocky Mountains, excluding dry prairies)
Habitat: sandy soils
Chemical components: white latex containing cardiac glycosides, nicotines, etc.
