One of 21 species introduced to Japan that is:
C. papaya L.
Papaia (パパイア/パパイヤ, 蕃瓜樹/万寿果), papaya
パパヤ, モッカ(木瓜), チチウリ(乳瓜)
Lifeform: herbaceous, evergreen, short tree with 5-10 m in height
Distribution: southern Mexico - West Indies

cultivated broadly in tropical regions, including the southern parts of Japan

Habitat: not known as a truly wild plant, often escaped from the cultivated areas
Use: edible fruit used as fruit and vegetable
Synonyms (merged into C. papaya):

Carica peltata Hook. et Arn.
Carica posoposa L.
