Distribution: native to south America, introduced to Japan in the late Edo Era and distributed in south to Kanto District
Habitat: disturbed sites, such as roadsides, railroads, gravel-bars, wasteground, lawns, and gardens
Anther: white ↔ O. articulata = yellow
Seed dispersal: self
