Lifeform: epiphytic perennial, occasionally becoming 7 m long
Distribution: southern North America - South America
Habitat: diverse, such as in mangrove near seacoasts and cloud forests in mountainous regions
Root: degenerated
Use: gardening, indicator species of air pollution
Usually discarded:
f. filiformis André, slim leaf in Argentina
f. ferruginea André, short leaf between Argentina to Bolivia
f. cretacea Mez, white leaf in Peru to Argentina
