Seiyoutsuge (セイヨウツゲ, 西洋柘植), common box, European box or boxwood
Lifeform: evergreen shrub ≈ 10 m high
Distribution: western and southern Europe - northwest Africa - southwest Asia (not in Japan)
Habitat: on soils derived from chalk and limestone, usually as an understorey in forests, commonly associated with Fagus sylvatica forests
Leaf arrangement: opposite phyllotaxis
Utilization: hedges
Cultivars: elegantissima, latifolia maculata, etc.
