Kiringiku (キリンギク, 麒麟菊), dense blazing star, prairie feather, gayfeather or button snakewort
Life form: perennial forb, up to 1.5 m tall

cold-tolerant

Distribution: eastern North America

introduced to Japan in Taisho Era

Habitat: moist prairies, wet meadows, fen, moist savanna, wetland edges, etc. in the native regions
Use: gardening → cultivars, e.g., Alba, Floristan White, Callilepsis, Floristan Violett and Kobold

Native American: used as medicine (carminative, diuretic, stimulant and expectorant herb)

var. resinosa Gaiser: only 5 or 6 flowers per head
