Nioikantou (ニオイカントウ, 匂款冬), winter heliotrope, sweet coltsfoot or butterbur
Nioibuki (ニオイブキ, 匂蕗)
Life form: dioecious, rhizomatous, perennial frob
Distribution: central Mediterranean (Italy, Sicily and Sardinia) and north Africa

introduced to Japan in early Showa Era

Habitat: wet meadows, damp woodlands, stream banks and ditches
Use: ornamental
