nodaiou (ノダイオウ, 野大黄), dooryard dock or northern dock
Lifeform: perennial forb (dioecism) ≈ 1 m in height
Distribution: widespread in the cool-temperatre regions of the Northern Hemisphere, including Japan (Hokkaido and Honshu)

Red Data Book: vulnerable (VU, assigned in 2012)

Habitat: sunny and mesic sites, such as ditches, stream sides and grassy marshlands
Leaf: hairless ⇒ Rumex gmelinii (カラフトノダイオウ), hair on the backside
