Gyoryuu-modoki (ギョリュウモドキ, 御柳擬), heath or heather
Lifeform: evergreen shrub < 1 m in height
Distribution: Asia (Turkey and Russia) - Europe - Africa (Morocco, Azores and Madeira)
Habitat: often dominant in heathlands and moorlands in Europe and in some bogs
Leaf: small scales (< 2–3 mm long) borne in opposite and decussate pairs
Fruit: capsule
Synonyms:

Erica vulgaris L., used before separated

Cultivars: many, e.g., Beoley Silver
