Japanese common name originates from the Sanskrit

Nagamipannoki (ナガミパンノキ, 長実麵麭木)
Lifeform: evergreen tree ≤ 25 m in height
Distribution: southern India - Bangladesh
Habitat: rain forests
Leaf: dimorphic (young - mature)
Use: wood = temple pillars and kasaya dyeing, fruit = raw food and jam

cultivated in tropical regions in Asia, Africa and South America
