Inagomame (イナゴマメ, 蝗豆), carob or locust bean/tree
Lifeform: evergreen tree over 10 m in height
Distribution: Mediterranean region and the Middle East
Habitat: scrubs and scrublands, especially near the coasts
Use: edible bean (the ripe, dried pod is grounded to make carob powder, used to the alternatives of cocoa powder)
Etymology of carat: one carat, originating from a seed of carob, is fixed at 0.2 grams to weigh treasure stones
