Glycyrrhiza L. (カンゾウ)
Kanzou (カンゾウ, 甘草, s.l.), liquorice (UK) or licorice (US)
var. glandulifera (Waldst. et Kit.) Regel et Herder
Seihokukanzou (セイホクカンゾウ, 西北甘草, s.s.)
Lifeform: deciduous, perennial forb
Distribution: western Asia (not including Japan), northern Africa and southern Europe
Habitat: on sandy soils, in wastelands and dry river beds
Use: medicinals by roots (radixes or licorice roots) and stolons for usign analgesia, spasmolysis, antitussive, digestive organ ulceration and corrigent

Chemicals: glycyrrhizin, etc.
