Papaver L. (ケシ)
Onigeshi (オニゲシ, 鬼芥子/鬼罌粟), oriental poppy
Lifeform: perennial forb with 50-100 cm in height (treated as annual for gardening)

dormant in summer

Distribution: western Asia in Caucasus, northeastern Turkey and northern Iran (exotic to Japan)
Habitat: neadows (usually in sub-alpine zones)
Use: gardening (poisonous) - cultivars
P. bracteatum Lindl. (ハカマオニゲシ): morphologically similar with P. orientale, treated as drug by Narcotics and Psychotropics Control Law
