Kurokougaizakisyou (クロコウガイゼキショウ, 黒笄石菖), chestnut rush
Lifeform: perennial rush ≈ 50 cm high
Distribution: circumboreal (reported only from Mounts Daisetsu in the case of Japan)
Habitat: wet places on tundra and in the mountains
Chromosome number: 2n = 40
Synonyms:

Juncus satakei Kitag.
Juncus triceps auct. non Rostkov.

Varieties in Alaska (Hultén 1968)
ssp. castaneus
ssp. leucochlamys (Zinz.) Hult., taller than ssp. castaneus with several heads. Reported mostly from interor Alaska
