Habitat: dry and sunny sites (Uesaka & Tsuyuzaki 2004), established in the early stages of volcanic succession in Hokkaido (Tsuyuzaki 1991)
Flower: dioecious

Flora on: Mount Koma, Mount Usu

var. yedoensis (Franch. et Sav.) Ohwi (カワラハハコ, 河原母子), leaf width ≤ 2 mm (not adopted in Hokkaido)
