Nandina Thunb. (ナンテン)
Nanten (ナンテン, 南天), (Japanese) sacred bamboo (南天竹 in Chinese, 竹 = bamboo)
Life form: (semi-)evergreen shrub ≈ 2 m in height
Distribution: originating from China (now naturally established in the southern part of Japan)
Habitat: forest (森林), including the edge
Seed dispersal: animal, by red or (rarely) white fruits
Chromosome number: 2n = 20
Utilization: gardening and medicine
Cultivars:
cv. porphylocarpa (フジナンテン) (syn. var. porphyrocarpa Makino)
cv. shironanten (シロミナンテン/キミノナンテン) (syn. var. leucocarpa Makino)
cv. latifolia (オタフクナンテン)
