Lifeform: turfed, perennial grass
Distribution: Europe

introduced to Japan in Meiji Era for forage crop

Habitat: meadows, roadsides, old pastures, riversides, etc.
Soil: suitable for loamy and heavy soils
Chromosome number: 2n = 14, 28, 24 or 70
Synonym:

Schedonorus pratensis (Huds.) P.Beauv., when the genus establishes
Festuca elatior L. ssp. pratensis (Huds.) Hack.
