Lolium L. (ドクムギ)
Boumugi (ボウムギ, 棒麦), Wimmera ryegrass, rigid Italian rye grass, annual rye-grass or stiff darnel
Life form: turfed, annual/biennial grass
Distribution: native to southern Europe, northern Africa, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent (exotic to Japan)
Habitat: coastal sand dunes
Seed: developing short-lived seedbank, less than 12 months
Chromosome number: 2n = 7 or 14
Synonyms:

Lolium subulatum Vis., often adopted
Lolium loliaceum (Bory et Chaub.) Hand.-Mazz.

Hybrids: with L. perenne, L. multiflorum and a few Festuca species
ssp. rigidum
ssp. leptuloides (Boiss.) Sennen et Mauricio
