Lifeform: deciduous shrub < 2 m high, developing ericoid mycorrhizae (ツツジ科菌根) (Tsuyuzaki et al. 2005)
Distribution: endemic to Japan (Kyuhu - southern Hokkaido)
Habitat: sunny, rocky sites
Poison: grayanotoxin
Pistil: straight ↔ Cladothamnus bracteatus: curled
