Distribution: China - Taiwan - Japan (south to central Honshu)
Habitat: mountainous, (evergreen) forests
Hair: dense on young shoots, inflorescences, petioles and backsides of leaves
Use: sumi charcoal
Fossil: in Tertiary recorded from Japan
