Hamaguge (ハマスゲ, 浜菅), coco-grass, Java grass, nut grass, purple nut sedge or purple nutsedge
Life form: rhizomatous, perennial sedge
Distribution: Africa - southern and central Europe (north to France and Austria) - southern Asia
Habitat: dry grasslands, roadsides, sand dunes, etc.
Use: crude drug (discovered from the Todai-ji Temple Shosoin
