Lifeform: deciduous tall tree ≤ 25 m in height
Distribution: eastern Asia, including Japan (south to Tohoku District)
Habitat: mountainous forests
Leaf: leathery and toothed
Seed = acorn developing a tile-like pattern
Pollination: wind
Seed dispersal: gravity or cache
Use: firewood (wood) and dye (bark)
