Lifeform: dioecious, evergreen shrub < 4 (10) m in height
Distribution: Taiwan - south Korea - Japan (south to Kanto District)
Habitat: forests (森林), often growing in mixed coniferous and broad-leaved forests in Taiwan)
Flower/fruit: red (in spring) → dark purple
Chromosome number: 2n = 72
Use: wood apparatus, and wood fuel
