Lifeform: deciduous tree ≈ 7 m tall
Origin: southern China

introduced to Japan in Edo Era → frost tolerant

Habitat: semi-shaded places, rich fields, wild or cultivated
Seed dispersal: wind using wing
Chromosome number: 2n = 48 or 50
cv. alba = f. alba (G. Nicholson) Rehder (シロバナサルスベリ)
cv. tuscarora
cv. Natchez, hybrid between L. indica × fauriei (syn. L. subcostata var. L. fauriei)
