Saraca L. (ムユウジュ)
No Japanese name (tentative = ハナサカムユウジュ*. Phonological translation = サラカ・ディウェス), common saraca
Subfamily Caesalpinioideae (⇒ Detarioideae)
Lifeform: evergreen tree, with 5-20 m in height
Distribution: southern China - Laos - Vietnam
Habitat: forests, riversides, along valleys and by stream
bark (樹皮)
Use: medicine (rheumatism)

China: regarded as a sacred tree and planted at temples and other sacred sites because of its abundant flowering
Agricultural and horticultural pests: host plant for scale insects
