Life form: deciduous forb
Distribution: cool temperate in the Northern Hemisphere (the southern limit is isolatedly distributed in Midorogaike Pond (深泥池) in Kyoto)
Habitat: wetlands
Two subspecies when established
ssp. palustris: north and eastern Europe - northern Asia
ssp. americana (Fernald) Hultén.: northern North America
