Lifeform: perennial growing up to 50 cm
Distribution: Japan (northern Honshu - Hokkaido) - Sakhalin - North China - East Siberia
Habitat: woodland, shady forest edge
Seed dispersal: self / endo-zoochore (animal)
Chromosomal number: 2n = 16
Note: C. heterocarpa Sieb. et Zucc. var. japonica (Franch. et Savat.) Ohwi (Kikeman, キケマン), not distributed in Hokkaido
