Galanthus L. (マツユキソウ)
Matsuyukisou (マツユキソウ, 待雪草), nowdrop or common snowdrop

Do not be confused with Oomatsuyukisou (オオマツユキソウ, Leucojum vernum L.)

Lifeform: perennial forb, reproduced by bulbs
Distribution: native between the South Europe and the Caucasus (exotic to Japan)
Habitat: spring ephemeral in the original sites, woods, thickets, hedgebanks, meadows, etc.
Use: gardening (high cold tolerance) → escaped
var. vernum: with green spots on its tepals
var. carpathicum Sims: originating from the eastern part of its natural range, a larger plant with yellowish spots on its tepals
f. pleniflorus P. D. Sell (ヤエマツユキソウ*): double-flowered (* tentative translation)
