Oni-nogeshi (オニノゲシ, 鬼野芥子), prickly sowthistle
Etymology: oni (ogre) + nogeshi (Sonchus oleraceus)
Lifeform: annual/biennial forb
Distribution: native to Europe (now widespread exotic to the world, including Japan)

reported in Meiji Era

Habitat: roadsides, crop fields, etc., as a weed (雑草)

[1] at Teshio River, northern Hokkaido, on June 16 2011. The plant was dwarf, due probably to strong wind. [2/3] along the Route 5 between Oshamanbe and Yakumo on June 18 2014. [4] at Oshamanbe Amedas Station, southern Hokkaido, on June 15 2015. [5/6] at a location planned a wind power in Kamiyuchi, northern Hokkaido, on November 1 2017. Records: at the backyard of Institute for the Advancement of Higher Education, Hokkaido University, on May 5 2023.
