Kusayoshi (クサヨシ, 草葦), reed canarygrass
Etymology of Japanese name: クサ = grass + ヨシ (reed, Phragmites australis)
Lifeform: deciduous, rhizomatous, perennial grass
Distribution: widespread in the temperate regions of the northern hemisphere

Hokkaido Blue List: A3

Habitat: along the margins of lakes and streams and in wet open areas
Chromosome number: 2n = 14, 28, 27-31, 35, or 42
Synonyms:

Digraphis arundinacea (L.) Trin.
Phalaroides arundinacea (L.) Rausch.

var. japonica (Steud.) Hack. (ホソボクサヨシ), usually not established
cv. picta L. (シマヨシ), white mottles on leaf margins
