Lifeform: deciduous shrub or small tree
Distribution: originally distributed in eastern China (transplanted traditionally in Japan)
Habitat (in native regions): thickets and upland forest on rocky mountain slopes
Utilization: garden tree and street tree (used for traditional medicine in China) → a few cultivars
Synonyms:

Sophora japonica L.
separated from Sophora because of lack in nitrogen-fixing bacteria) on the roots
