Stem develops sticky sap that had been considered to catch fly. However, it is not true, and thus this species is not a carnivorous plant. Mushitori means 'catch fly'.

[1] on the trail near the parking lot on Mount Koma on July 9 2009. The plant has established only on the trails. The sticky sap might protect from ant. Now (that means year 2009) it is common on the 2000 Crater of Mount Usu. [2/3] at a riverside on Satsunai River, eastern Hokkaido, on June 26 2013. [4] a rosette along Atsuma Coast (浜厚真), central Hokkaido, on August 5 2023.
