Dioscorea L. (ヤマノイモ)
Onidokoro (オニドコロ, 鬼野老), Tokoro mountain yam
Lifeform: dioecious, perennial vine
Distribution: eastern Asia (China - Korea- Japan, including Hokkaido)
Habitat: thickets in lowland and foothills
Shoot and rhizome: bitter ≠ wild vegetable (山菜), containing dioscorine, dioscin, diosoreasapotoxin, etc.

Use: dried rhizomes used as medicine

Chromosome number 2n = 20 (♀: 2n = 18 + XX. ♂: 2n = 18 + XY
