Lifeform: prostrate, evergreen shrub
Distribution: northern Japan, Sakhalin, Kuril Islands and Aleutian Islands
Habitat: coniferous and/or subalpine thickets
Fruit flavor: salicylic acid and sweety
Seed dispersal: animal, in particular, hare on Mount Koma (Nomura & Tsuyuzaki 2015)
Synonyms:

Gaultheria pyroloides auct. non Hook. f et Thomson ex Miq., sometimes used
