Lifeform: semi-deciduous shrub < 5 m in height
Distribution: endemic to Japan (south to southern Hokkaido)
Habitat: sunny sites, such as forest gaps, forest edges, ridges, and grasslands
Leaf: producing spring and summer leaves (a few summer leaves overwinter)
