Aridooshi (アリドオシ, 蟻通, s.l.), Indian damnacanthus
Lifeform: evergreen shrub < 60 cm in height
Distribution: India - southeastern Asia - Korea - Japan (south to Kanto District)
Habitat: floors of evergreen borad-leaved forest

Length of spine ≥ leaf with 7-20 mm long
Fruit: red → animal dispersal
Chromosome number: 2n = 22 or 44
var. indicus (アリドオシ)
Synonyms:

f. microphyllus Makino (ヒメアリドオシ), dwarf form, well-branched stems, small leaves, Kii Peninsula - Kyushu Island Region
