Species epithet: sometimes spelled sabaei (Franch et Sav.) C. Chr.
Miyamaitachishida (ミヤマイタチシダ, 深山鼬羊歯), wood shield fern
Lifeform: evergreen perennial fern, producing short rhizomes
Distribution: endemic to Japan (Kyushu - central and southern Hokkaido)
Habitat: (mesic) forest floors
Leaf: blade (35-45 cm long, 15-20 cm wide) ≈ 2 × stalk length
Chromosome number: n = 41 (2x)
