Biroudomouzuika (ビロードモウズイカ, 天鵞絨毛蕊花)/Niwatabako (ニワタバコ, 庭煙草)/Ainutabako (アイヌタバコ), common mullein
Lifeform: weedy biennial forb up to 2 m high
Distribution: Native to Europe, northern Africa and Asia (exotic to Japan)
Habitat: disturbed sites, e.g., roadside

[1] along a paved road in N13/E2, North Ward, Sapporo, on September 30 2020. [2] a erect shoot with flowers at Usu Memorial Park at the foot of Mount Kompira on Sept. 9 2009. [3] a grassland dominated by V. thapsus at an unpaved parking lot on July 3 2012. Most plants were V. thapsus. [4-6] at N14/E4, North Ward, Sapporo, on June 29 2010. [7] in the court of Toya Lake Experimental Station of Hokkaido University on September 14 2022. Records: a rosette in the north campus of HU on August 31 2009.
