Don) Spach (シイ) Sudajii (スダジイ, 須田椎 → commonly called Shii), Shii, or sweet-acorn tree * (* tentative) Lifeform: evergreen tall tree Distribution: Jeju Island - Japan (south to Fukushima and Niigata Prefecture) Habitat: developing climax forests (極相林) lowland zone (山麓帯) ☛ Coastal forest on Izu-Oshima Seed dispersal: gravity (or cache by rodents)

Use: tree for garden and street, bark for dye (because of high concentration of tannin), and wood for furniture Synonyms: Castanopsis cuspidata (Thunb.) Schottky var. sieboldii (Makino) Nakai Castanopsis cuspidata (Thunb.) Schottky f. lanceolata Sugim. Castanopsis cuspidata auct. non (Thunb.)
